This past weekend, sickness hit our house hard. One by one, my kids started going down. The laundry piled up, meals became as simple as possible (hello, buttered sourdough toast for days), and my usual routines? Completely out the window.
And somewhere between refilling water cups, whispering prayers over feverish foreheads, and making yet another round of bone broth, I felt the pull to keep pushing.
To “catch up.”
To do more.
But God reminded me of something simple yet profound:
✨ Rest is holy. Healing takes time. And our bodies are designed to recover best when we slow down enough to let them.
If you’ve ever felt this too—whether sickness has hit your house or you’re just feeling drained—I want to share what helped us this week so you can use these tools when you need them.

1️⃣ A Chapter to Read This Week: Matthew 6
In the chaos, I needed to remind myself of this: God provides. Even when my plans fall apart, even when I feel behind, He is still enough.
💡 Try This: Read a few verses from Matthew 6 each morning and ask:
“Lord, what are You showing me about rest and trust today?”
Key verse to hold onto:
“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – Matthew 6:34
2️⃣ A Kid-Friendly, Budget-Friendly Meal We Ate on Repeat
When my kids are sick (or I’m too drained to cook), I need easy, nourishing, and budget-friendly meals. This simple Chicken & Rice Soup was on repeat this week, and I wanted to share it with you!
🍲 Simple Chicken & Rice Soup (Feeds the whole family!)
✔️ 1 cup rice
✔️ 4 cups broth
✔️ 2 cups shredded chicken
✔️ 2 carrots, diced
✔️ 2 celery stalks, diced
✔️ 1 tsp garlic, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp pepper
✔️ Optional: Squeeze of lemon for extra immune support
🔥 Instructions:
1️⃣ Cook rice separately.
2️⃣ In a large pot, bring broth to a simmer and add veggies & seasonings.
3️⃣ Stir in shredded chicken and let cook for 10-15 minutes.
4️⃣ Add cooked rice at the end. Serve & enjoy!
💡 Why I love this: It’s gentle on the stomach, nutrient-dense, and cheap to make!
3️⃣ A 5-Minute “Come Back to Life” Workout
When I’m getting back into movement after feeling run-down, simple is best. This quick, gentle routine helped me regain energy without overdoing it.
🔥 Do This 2x for 5 Minutes:
✔️ 30 sec March in Place
✔️ 30 sec Seated Core Twists
✔️ 30 sec Squats (or Sit-to-Stands)
✔️ 30 sec Arm Circles (forward & backward)
✔️ 30 sec Deep Breathing & Stretch
💡 Try This: Play worship music while you move—it shifts your whole atmosphere!
