You Don’t Need to Follow Every Feeling
Our feelings can be loud.
I don’t feel motivated.I feel like I’m failing.I feel overwhelmed.I feel like something needs to change.
Feelings are real, and we don’t need to pretend they aren’t. But feeling something doesn’t automatically make it true—or mean we should follow it.
Scripture calls us to something steadier.
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” — John 17:17
A Simple 3-Question Check
When your emotions are pulling you in a direction, ask:
1. What am I feeling?Name it honestly instead of ignoring it.
2. What is actually true?Separate what you feel from what you know.
3. What does God’s Word say?Bring the situation back under the authority of Scripture.
Sometimes our feelings reveal something that needs attention. Sometimes they change after a good night’s sleep. Sometimes they simply need to be told, “That may be how I feel, but that isn’t what is true.”
We don't have to be ruled by every emotion that passes through.
Feelings can inform us. They were never meant to lead us.
