The Lie That Keeps Moms Stuck

The lie that keeps moms stuck isn’t laziness or lack of discipline—it’s waiting for life to settle down. This is your permission to begin anyway.

There’s one lie that quietly keeps so many moms from moving forward.

It doesn’t sound dramatic.

It doesn’t feel rebellious.

It often sounds responsible—even wise.

The lie is this:

“I’ll start when things settle down.”

When life is calmer.

When the kids are older.

When the house is more organized.

When I have more energy.

When I feel more disciplined.

So we wait.

And January makes that waiting feel heavier—because it promises momentum but delivers pressure.

Why This Lie Feels So Convincing

This lie works because it feels reasonable.

Moms live in seasons of:

  • Interrupted sleep

  • Constant needs

  • Hormonal shifts

  • Mental load

  • Physical exhaustion

So postponing health doesn’t feel like avoidance—it feels like survival.

But here’s the problem:

Life rarely settles down.

And if you’re waiting for calm before you begin, you may be waiting forever.

The Cost of Waiting for “Later”

Waiting doesn’t keep you safe.

It keeps you stuck.

It quietly reinforces beliefs like:

  • This season doesn’t count

  • Faithfulness requires ideal conditions

  • I can’t be consistent unless life cooperates

Over time, waiting becomes a habit.

And hope slowly erodes—not because you failed, but because you never let yourself start.

This is how moms end up years removed from caring for themselves, not because they didn’t want to—but because they kept postponing obedience.

God Does Not Ask for Ideal Conditions

Scripture never tells us to wait for life to feel manageable before we obey.

God works inside hard seasons—not after them.

Obedience has always happened in:

  • Wilderness

  • Weariness

  • Uncertainty

  • Inconvenience

Faithfulness is not reserved for calm seasons.

It’s forged in the middle of demanding ones.

The Real Truth We Avoid Facing

Here’s the uncomfortable but freeing truth:

If you don’t learn how to care for your body in this season, you won’t magically know how to do it in the next one.

Because the next season will come with its own challenges.

Different—but still demanding.

Waiting teaches avoidance.

Starting teaches stewardship.

What Faithful Health Looks Like in Real Life

Faithful health is not:

  • A full routine

  • A perfect plan

  • An all-in reset

Faithful health looks like:

  • Eating even when the day is chaotic

  • Moving gently instead of not at all

  • Choosing consistency over intensity

  • Returning after disruption instead of quitting

It’s not impressive.

It’s obedient.

And obedience doesn’t wait for “later.”

A Better Question Than “When Things Calm Down”

Instead of asking:

“When will life settle down enough for me to start?”

Ask:

“What is the smallest faithful step I can take in this season?”

That question removes pressure.

And pressure is usually what keeps moms frozen.

You’re Not Behind — You’ve Just Been Waiting

If this lie has kept you stuck, hear this clearly:

You are not lazy.

You are not undisciplined.

And you are not failing.

You’ve just been believing a lie that told you this season didn’t count.

It does.

A Question to Sit With This Week

What have you been postponing because you’re waiting for life to settle down—and what would faithfulness look like if you started right where you are?
